Paxillin family Provide feedback

Paxillin is a multi-domain protein that localises in cultured cells primarily to sites of cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix (ECM) called focal adhesions. The family here represents the N-terminal regions with the proline-rich part as well as the Paxillin part. Focal adhesions form a structural link between the ECM and the actin cytoskeleton and are also important sites of signal transduction; their components propagate signals arising from the activation of integrins following their engagement with ECM proteins, such as fibronectin, collagen and laminin. Importantly, focal adhesion proteins including paxillin also serve as a point of convergence for signals resulting from stimulation of various classes of growth factor receptor [1].

Trees

Structures

For those sequences which have a structure in the Protein DataBank, we use the mapping between UniProt, PDB and Pfam coordinate systems from the PDBe group, to allow us to map Pfam domains onto UniProt sequences and three-dimensional protein structures. The table below shows the structures on which the Paxillin domain has been found. There are 21 instances of this domain found in the PDB.
