This family features the C-terminal regions of various plexins (e.g. P51805). Plexins are receptors for semaphorins, and plexin signalling is important in path finding and patterning of both neurons and developing blood vessels [1,2]. The cytoplasmic region, which has been called a SEX domain in some members of this family  is involved in downstream signalling pathways, by interaction with proteins such as Rac1, RhoD, Rnd1 and other plexins . This domain acts as a RasGAP domain .

For those sequences which have a structure in the Protein DataBank, we use the mapping between UniProt, PDB and Pfam coordinate systems from the PDBe group, to allow us to map Pfam domains onto UniProt sequences and three-dimensional protein structures. The table below shows the structures on which the Plexin_cytopl domain has been found. There are 19 instances of this domain found in the PDB. Note that there may be multiple copies of the domain in a single PDB structure, since many structures contain multiple copies of the same protein seqence.
